Question Replace OS with Linux on old Samsung Tab

I have an old Samsung Galaxy Tab kicking around that I've been trying to find creative ways to use. Security cam, e-reader, encyclopedia, things like that. There is a bunch of crap installed on it that never gets used, even when i used it as my main mobile device. Extra google crap, sprint activation apps, etc. Is it possible to completely wipe this thing and install linux on it, kind of like you would a PC?

Model: SPH-100
Build: gingerbread.EF17

Sounds like a fun project!
Here's a link that'll get you started: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...d.php?t=836022
They got Ubuntu up and running and it required a root of the tablet, all of which is walked through on the link.

Thanks! i checked it out and it looks like what I need to run linux on it. However, i was hoping to wipe the android OS entirely and run the whole thing on Linux exclusively. Googling for the past few days has led me to beleive that this is as close as I'm going to get. I'll give it a shot and see what happens!

[deleted --> I found in the Debian wiki some talk of getting Debian working on various mobile devices, which I initially posted, but in further looking at it, it seems this was just an idealistic pursuit that never panned out]
