oh boy.
What's Crust? Nothing I saw mentioned it. A search on DDG comes up empty. Now I'm really mad - no excuse for something like that not being up front in the package documentation. Especially with a new product. So how would I enable this Crust? (Oh, and thank you.) |

Ferrari is right, Crust is a fairly recent addition so that would explain the lack of documentation. It appears it showed up after the Ubports CE was already in the works. Did you update your phone? These OS's are under extremely heavy development so this changes fast. Should be able to enable/disable in the settings if you are running the latest builds. https://forum.pine64.org/showthread....9957&pid=66462 I see no point in getting upset. Had you looked around the web a little(search pinephone on YouTube or lbry) you would have understood exactly what you're buying. :twocents: |
Only upset about documentation, having started life as a COBOL programmer.
What I see now is stuff written by people who assume their readers or users can read their xxx-in' minds. A search for "pinephone64 crust" got nothing... what can I say? Thanks for your comments |

Have you found the repo yet? https://github.com/crust-firmware/crust Most pinephone OS's have this implemented out of the box already but you'll need to update or flash the latest images. All in all I doubt you'll be replacing your android or ios devices right away but if the development pace keeps up like it has for the last several months it should be soon. Keep us updated. |
I really don't know how a Pinephone user is expected to find this without coming here.
Thanks. From the repo: Quote:

You just buy the hardware. An OS might happen to be preinstalled, but that's not required. That's one reason why they're so cheap - they provide the hardware, others develop the software. There is some cooperation I'd assume, but essentially that is pine64's business model. IMO, it's way more honest & realistic than e.g. Purism's Librem 5 desaster. Quote:

Having fits trying to get this crust thing going.
Suddenly found that system is read-only. Can't change squat. Why? How? How to fix? Search skills not helping me at pine64 or ubports. |

What ubports build are you running? Also have you tried booting other OS's like Mobian, PostmarketOS, or even a different Ubports version from an SD card? You don't need to install an OS to your device to run it. |
Wow.
Just downloaded some documentation that is dated yesterday, July 19, 2020 - printed out on 107 pages. That way I won't lose it and it's all in one place. Found it here https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/u.../location.html |
Nothing in these docs so far is working.
The "Crust" fix yesterday didn't work, it turned it into a brick and I had to do a factory reset. Trying the fix again, "file not found" error on second command this time. Even with the documentation, it seems that there are critical files not installed and there's no doc to tell me what's going on. Had enough for now. Maybe come back later. Maybe use it as a doorstop. |
You could seek community support from fellow pine64 users of course. I note that https://www.pine64.org/ offers links to forum, IRC, and various other support platforms.

There's several listed on eBay right now. Maybe that would work to recover some losses.
