Operation Advice Request for Ubuntu on Android via Linux Deploy
 

I've installed Ubuntu on my note 3 using Linux Deploy, and it's really cool. I like having a mobile device that I can use as a desktop, that i can carry in my pocket, charge on usb, and seems to just last for days and days.

I'm trying to figure out more cool things to do with it, and right now I'm using it as a learning machine to figure out linux, and as a (secure?) billpay computer. It's essentially chromeOS on the back end of my phone with a few extra features. It's neat but i feel like I'm under utilizing it.

I'm also fairly new to linux, but i feel like I know enough to get myself in trouble.

Do you have any advice for neat or practical application of ubuntu on mobile?
Since I'm using the Note 3, i have the S-pen, which works well through bvnc. Are there handwriting or drawing programs that I should be using with this?
Is this the right place to post this kind of thing, or should I be looking elsewhere?

i am currently trying myself to install linux on my kitkat (4.4.2) phone.
which android version do you have?
how did you set up linuxdeploy? just the defaults?

is it really more secure this way?

i'm sorry but i don't understand this. chromeos and ubuntu are not the same.

to literally answer your question:
once you have ubuntu installed, i guess you can do everything with it that you can do on a desktop install.

I basically tinkered with it until I got it to work, then exported those settings to use with all future builds, so i don't really even know what I changed. Most of my work was going through the original Russian thread that it was posted on and taking their suggestions via google translate. There's several years of content from the project.

I'm using a Note 3 with CM12.1 nightlies and Lolli.
I'm using the ubuntu vivid installation with armhf arch. I had to change the directory to point to the sd card, and a basic Ubuntu.img file. Gnome and Kde wasn't working, so i used LXDE instead. Enable the Symlink, then Update the environment via the settings. Make sure busybox is installed (not just that you have the app installed). Then you just hit install and try to read and correct any errors that you come across. Once you get the "<<<install" dialog, hit 'start', wait for everything to load, and log in via vnc using the 'changeme' password.

I'm only really using it for the browser and browser applications, hence chromeos.

And the system might be a little more 'secure' for billpay because it's on my person, and I have a fair amount of control over it. I'm shifting the burden of security from the computer to myself, which... i don't know.

Give me a shout if you're doing this. I troubleshoot for a living so its really second nature to dive into this stuff. I'm not as well-versed in Linux as I am in breaking things then trying to fix them, and I could use a friend on the other side of that equation.
