Need to update Note 2 to Android-5+. Options?

I have a Samsung Note 2 with Android-4.4.2. It's about vintage 2012, and Samsung are not offering system updates to 5.0

http://www.androidorigin.com/samsung...d-5-0-release/

I now need an epilepsy monitor whose app requires Android-5.0 or higher. So it's upgrade, or replace. What mods or workarounds would you recommend?

By "mods" do you mean modded ROMs ?. Looks like the way to go - a quick search tosses up a bunch of options with Nougat. I've usually used CM on my (non-Samsung) modded devices. You should be able to get a package that gets you access to Play Store, or if you want to avoid google there is f-droid - whether your required app is there you would have to check.

Yes, I mean modded roms, for which rooting is required. I installed Cyanogenmod in a very early Android phone back in the day, so I know the score. I am aware Cyanogenmod is effectively going broke and discontinuing soon, I have heard of JesusFreak's mods and they were highly spoken of back when I knew something about mods, and there may be other mods which have escaped my notice. I'm not greatly into software, and have spent too much time in hospital recently.

But I'm circling very carefully this time. I don't greatly mind bricking the phone (I'd just buy one, I suppose), but I only have one hand working and need to delegate the tricky stuff; so I need everything down before I start.

EDIT: The App I need is not in F-Droid :-(.

Is this what your looking for?

Here's EpDetect on Google Play:

I looked at the new Android Nougat. Sweet phone that lets you run 2 app's side by side.

Check out Lineageos. They took over from CM and have a selection of roms. I'd be surprised if they don't have the one you need.

Thanks, guys but things have moved on. The only mobile repair guy I could find to handle this is on the far side of the city, a nuisance for me. Then the Government came good with a backdated Disability Allowance. So I forgot rooting, and treated myself to a new S7 Edge last night. Being one model behind takes the bite out of the price.

@petelq: LineageOS looks interesting, but non free. CM is staying up until December if I read things correctly.
I could still get CM12, which is all I need.

@Ztcoracat: The elsilever link seems to be talking up Epdetect (also linked), but that has problems for me:
1. I currently have all my siezures while asleep, when I don't have a mobile phone on my person.
2. I have a large phone, usually in a shirt pocket, but the paralysis from my stroke lessens activity considerably. So there's a very fine and probably indistinguishable difference between me moving and a siezure. My siezures in daytime (If I had any) could be LESS active than me moving around :-/.

For an epilepsy monitor, I went for the Empatica Embrace. It's a wristwatch which monitors and talks to the app via bluetooth. I can leave that on at night, and wear it on my good arm. Here's the links
App On Google Play Store
Embrace Watch on Empatica Website

It seems to be ahead of the competition, and works day & night. I hope it lives up to the claims.

You're Welcome.

Sorry the program I recommended/linked didn't work for you.

Congrads on having the new S7 Edge.-:)
I bet it's nice.

I hope for you it lives up to it's claims too.

The reviews seem universally to be "Keep Working on it!" type of thing. There's a score of 2.9 both for Epdetect & Embrace. Embrace seems to drop out connections, but I got training in that area and have an edge.

I cut my teeth electronically on valve TVs in the '70s in Ireland, which is beside England, Scotland, Wales, & Northern Ireland. Those places went to great lengths not to let their signals get to Ireland, because we poached them and didn't pay for their service. In Ireland, we got skilled at using what little signal there was, and over the years it becomes intuitive.

The S7 Edge might be nice if I had my hands on it. It's coming through Ebay.

Cool.

Let us know how things go when your Edge arrives.

Cheers,

I have the S7 Edge a while now and never came back on this. It is cool, excellent cpu, screen & camera, and other things all work. I've passed the "It knows more about me than I know about it" stage, but opted out of nearly M$ and social networking stuff. The screen is wrap around, which is a PITA, as I have only one hand. Likewise, using the camera is awkward, purely because I'm disabled.

I said the screen is good, but it doesn't handle sunlight well. Also, swiping buttons is awkward but that's me rather than it. Overall, I'm impressed. I haven't loaded a performance tester app to test it.

That great news business_kid.

It sounds like you are very well pleased.

Congrads on your new purchase.
