MP4 fixing?
 

This is a long shot.

I'm looking for an Android app to fix MP4 files, dodgy downloads that terminated prematurely. I realize that MP4 is a wrapper format enclosing several formats. I'm in hospital currently, so limited to Android-7.x. on 2 devices.

I might be tempted to try Adobe first. Reputable company but low user score.

It all depends on how well the program can cope with missing information.

Not sure if the mp4 fix programs would do much better than a video editor program but maybe.

Some mp4's will report damaged only because the format is not supported also.

My main issue is truncated downloads.

Sounds to me like you could benefit from using a download manager. It will pick up where the download was cut off.

I use the "DownThemAll!" extension for Firefox (I could have sworn it was called DownloadThemAll!), a mass downloaded as it's referred to in its description.

It's the bomb in mine.

I have been hospitalised for months now. I am using Movie Box app to download mainly, Firefox occasionally. DownThemAll I will try for Firefox.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had to spend a couple months in the hospital as a teenager. I was on heavy pain meds the whole time so I had a little something else to deal with before being discharged. I hope you're on your way to recovery.

I'm using either Palemoon or Firefox-ESR as my browser and v3.0.8 of DownThemAll! from this page, which is an older version at the top.

It's no longer supported with Firefox Quantum, but this is what I use and what you want. It should pick up any truncated downloads where they left off and your videos play without any problems.

I've never had an Android, or a smartphone, so I'm not familiar with them and you'll need to adapt as needed.

Searching for fix mp4 in the Google Play Store returns several apps that can repair mp4 files.

Have you tried any of them?

That's one search I didn't try, although I tried a few.

Let us know if you find an app that does the trick.

Not marking this solved but giving up..

One app fixes other errors. One claims to fix, but hasn't added it yet and is really a converter. I conclude there must be an important bit on the end.

For what it's worth. I use the opera mini browser for almost all downloads. For large downloads it might take me several weeks to download(this does NOT work for slack live current :D) I just pause the download and wait until I'm connected again.

I also figured out how I can download files from sources where the link expires in several hours. Just open the file manager and rename the partial download(add a 1 or something), start a new download of the same file and pause it, in the file manager delete the new file and rename the original back to what it was, resume your download, it'll automatically start downloading where you left off.

I'm not sure if this works with videos but it might be worth a shot.

I don't know if it will work on Android. It doesn't really suit my case because I don't have the patience to chase the same source repeatedly. I can copy my links, but the JavaScript handler in Android is a POS. Take my word for it.

Arm is good up to a point, but phones and tablets are always going to be very poor cousins of desktops until someone figures how to soup them up.
