Linux distron on Tablet
 

Hi,

This might have been answered many times before. It has been a while since I participated in this forum. My apologies for my silence.

Recently, I received a Tablet running Android. It works ok, but I am not completely convinced about it. It is a tablet with network enable only (no cellular possibilities).

Since these seem to run an ARM processor, my question is: Can I simply install an ARM Linux version (Fedora, Ubuntu, or any other), without having to root this device. I am looking to simply wipe the Android system, and install a complete Linux distro. I am thinking of doing so, through a Net Install USB device, and from a desktop, and installing (dumping) the distro on the connected Tablet. Is this something possible???

This is not exactly answer but i would recomend installing apps from F-droid website. This will give your tablet "open source" feel. To get rid of android check cyanogenmod comaptiblitiy or other open source roms on xda developers.

thank you for your answer. From what I understand, I would anyway need to root my android OS to completely wipe it afterwards.

I really don't care about the android OS. I have been working with Linux for about 20 years, and would be interested in installing a complete linux os on my Tablet.

Before removing android all together I would take a look and see if all the devices are recognised under linux. Meaning all the drivers can be loaded and are working.
If possible boot it through USB or network. Then dmesg | less and watch for anything suspicious. Also might be a good idea to just work with this "extra" boot for a week or two to see if everything is fine.

There is a tablet called Wetab with different processor that may run your favorite linux distro.
