HTC Desire Android Internet App

I have owned an HTC Desire for nearly a year now. It came with android 2.1 and was upgraded to 2.2 when released. For the first month the Internet browser worked fine. It then suddenly stopped connecting to the internet unless a wireless connection was used. I was hoping the upgrade to android 2.2. might have fixed the problem, but it didn't. As a work around I have installed Opera Mini and use that when I do not have a wireless connection. To be frank, Opera Mini is not good at formatting web pages and I would really like to get the built in browser working properly. Anyone got any ideas?

Have you looked at the system logs when trying to connect to the Internet over the cellular connection? You can either use one of the "logcat" applications in the Market, or else connect the phone to the computer and use ADB (from the Android SDK) to read the logs directly from the phone.

In either event, with the logs in hand you should at least get a clue as to what is going on. I would say that somehow you turned off "Mobile Data" in the Android settings, but since Opera works we have to conclude that the issue isn't system wide.

Brilliant. Thanks for the tip. As I will give this a go and see what information I can collect from the logs.

I have installed LogViewer 1.0.0

The only error being recorded, using the search parameter of 'error' in the time window is:
Tab 50-16 12:54:58.860
onReceivedError - 13 http://www.htc.com/ HTTP error code:504,<br>Gateway Time-out

This doesn't mean a lot to me other than telling me that the browser has timed out.

What is LogViewer?

Is this it? --

Do you know of a Debian pkg. for it?

It is a LogCat app available on the Market under the name of LogViewer.

It's probably not a big deal, but you didn't answer my questions directly:
  • Is this it?
  • Do you know of a Debian pkg. for it?
Just a link or links to what you did install would be helpful.

LogViewer is an Android application for viewing the system logs, it doesn't run on the computer.

So no, neither of those two are it, and no, there is no Debian package for it.

Thanks for clarifying. :)
