How to install Moblin on existing Ubuntu

Hello there,:)

I've got a Samsung NC10 that has Ubuntu installed. Recently, I have came across Moblin that has more comfortable interface for notebooks and I'm planning on to install it. Ubuntu is installed on 1 hard drive, together with home and root partitions on it. The perfect goal for me would be install Moblin but preserve the data on the Ubuntu system. I may also delete Ubuntu but I need to save my multimedia files on home. It's quite big storage 100 GB. Is there any way to achieve this without copying/making backup the entire home folder?

Moblin interface is available for Ubuntu, so I would imagine you can install it just as you would an alternate desktop environment, without needing to reinstall (I haven't tried this personally; can't stand Moblin):

You should always have a backup of your /home, that's just common sense. ;)

Yes, I was aware of this and that was my first goal but I went to the moblin IRC channel and a dev adviced me to install original Moblin not the one for Ubuntu as he has had many problems with the last one. That is why I want to put fresh moblin. There may be also a way of installing it trough synaptic, however koala repositories contain only few moblin packages so, it's not a complete version.

Thanks for the clarification, I did not know that. :)

I have not used the new Moblin installer so I can't be too much help. I think it is unlikely Moblin will successfully import your existing /home due to the vast differences in the distros, so personally I would back up all documents to an external drive and install Moblin fresh.

I'm still trying to get around this. I'll update you if there is any progress.
Thank you for your help
