Familiar and Opie on IPAQ 3790
Hi,
I am familiar with WM5 and its predecessors on various PDAs I have owned. However I have recently acquired an IPAQ 3970 and have been reading on this website about installing Familiar and Opie on this model. However the website Handheld.org is down. I have downloaded opie-1.2.5.tar.bz2 but have no idea how to install it or whether it would be sufficient. I also do not know how to backup WM 2000 the current operating system on the IPAQ. Your kind guidance would be appreciated. |
Hello,
I would start out by extracting the tar ball and looking at the contents, even looking for a README file that would point you in the right direction. If you want, you can post the contents of the tar ball here in a new post and we can have a look at it. Cheers, Josh |
Josh,
Thanks very much for that. Will try and post up contents. George (bolwara) PS: I have Ubuntu running on a lovely older Toshiba tablet PC and absolutely love it. |
Familiar linux distribution on IPAQ
Hi again,
As kindly advised I have extracted files from the download of OPIE but have not been able to access Familiar Linux. Because the site Handhelds.org is down and has been down for apparently a long time there seems to be now way to download Familiar Linux. I am wondering if anyone knows where Familiar can be found other than on Handhelds.org. I have linux on a Toshiba tablet PC (4200) and love it. I would really like to be able to work on my IPAQ 3970 using Open Office applications because I use my PDA for serious work on the train. I have another IPAQ running WM5 which has given good service for many years but I am really keen to migrate to Linux. GK |
