Creating a Wi Fi hotspot with a 7 inch Android Tab?
Hi, I got a Samsung 7 inch tablet computer with Android. At home I have wireless internet, but the tablet has no sim card or USB modem port...

Is there a way to travel and connect to the net, since one useful app it has is a navigator?

I heard something about making a Wi Fi hotspot with my mobile phone. I have a Nokia e63.

On my E71 I use JoikuSpot from the Ovi store (or whatever it's called this week) to turn my phone into a WiFi hotspot. I liked it so much I got the paid for version but the free version is OK, it just lacks any encryption so you have to be careful to secure your connection some other way.

Are there any devices other than mobile phones that can make a wi fi hotspot?

I have a mobile broadband modem, with it's sim card, but it is a USB device.

It would be good if there was a way to make the micro sd card port a USB port. I may have to buy a Navman.

You can buy dedicated 3G WiFi hotspot devices, a quick look on Amazon makes me thing they're not cheap though you could probably buy one with contract from a network for less.

JoikuSpot did not work from my e63, I will try from an e71.

Well, you say it has no USB MODEM port... but does the tablet have USB on it?
If so you may be able to get it to play hotspot... there are plenty of apps that do that.
You need only confirm that you can get connected to the usb device as your network source.

Sounds like it should work... good luck! :D

It turns out a Huawei touch screen phone with Android comes with an app for wifi hot spotting and it works!

My mum got it as a free bonus. Sim card works in it...

Pocket wifi is as cheap as $1 on ebay.
