Can I relocate my /usr directory while the system is running?

Howdy All,

I have a Nokia N900 and one issue with the device is that the root partition on it is only 100megs - meaning I am running out of space on it when installing standard applications. What I would like to do is move my /usr to reside on the same partition as my home folder (because it has 2gigs there). The issue I am having is that I cannot mount the phone's filesystem on my laptop - meaning I have to move /usr from the phone itself while the device is running... is this possible?

Copy the /usr directory to your home directory, then edit fstab to point to the new location for mounting /usr. After that restart the phone and then delete the old /usr if it worked right.
