Bluetooth transfer file from computer to android 2.2.1 mobile

I am rather new with android. I manage to pair my laptop (ubuntu 11.10) to the phone (vodafone 858) and transfer files _from_ it to the computer over bluetooth. However, if I try to send files from computer, it always tells me "connection refused". Anyone knows if this is possible (without a specified bluetooth app)? It looks as if I should explicitly allow receiving files, and I should be asked about a particular file.

What protocol are you trying to use? By default, Android doesn't support OBEX FTP (you would need an application like "Bluetooth File Transfer"), the only way to send a file to it would be to use OPP (Object Push Profile).

I was using no particular application, just looked around in the bluetooth menus. A little similar as using the computer -- you just enable bluetooth file sharing and thereafter you can just receive the files sent from the phone.

I also installed "bluetooth file transfer", that one solved basically the problems (I was able to browse and fetch the files on the computer) but I was still unable to send a file to the phone from the computer side. So I am wondering if there is an option, analogous to what I have on the computer to allow receiving files (on gnome it is "personal file sharing" -> "receive files over bluetooth"). That's Android 2.2.1. I know little about bluetooth, but if a device attempts to send a file to another, it uses OPP?

Thanks anyway.

Sorry for my previous message -- I just discovered that one can enable OPP in Bluetooth File Transfer. So it works :-)

Howver, OPP cannot be used without any additional app?
