best ipod linux?

So I've decided that I want to put Linux on my ipod. I know there are at least two or three major versions out there, but whats the best/most stable one available? I don't really know anything at all about this aspect of linux. Thanks for your help

I'm not too sure about installing Linux on an ipod, however have you considered Rockbox?:

Open-source firmware.

There is also a true port of Linux to various iPods, http://www.ipodlinux.org/wiki

I have The GtkPod package. GtkPod is a free, graphical tool for transferring files to and from the iPod. It is the Linux equivalent of the iTunes software used for this purpose on the Mac.

This would be awesome. F Apple
I'm done buying their products but if I could put linux on mine it'd be a start. Too bad it's a 4G nano. Anyone heard of something that would work on it?

Please use words. Complete ones would be particularly appreciated. :)

I used http://www.ipodlinux.org/wiki back a few years ago then I had problems with some of their newer software and gave up on it. I would head over there and read through their docs and forums to get advice on what to do with your make/model.
