Anyone have experience with Ubuntu touch mobile OS?

I bought a Nexus 5 in order to de-google my mobile experience. Supposedly Ubuntu Touch works very well on it.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Does anyone here disagree with this assertion?

This has been sitting for a bit so I'll chime in.

I wish I was.

It is not an official listed device but it is almost 100% per reports.

Hopefully you get it working. Kind of doubt you will brick it.

Many other "alternative" OS support (older) Google devices.

I never understood the apparent schizophreny in this...

Schizophreny in what?

I thought Ubuntu touch had gone the way of the dodo.
Once upon a time the Nexus 5 (I still have one) was a target for the Fuchsia development build. Maybe it was the only real device target initially supported (???). I run lineageOS on mine, but even they stopped supporting it with updates quite a while back.

Great small phone, but just junk these days I fear. Especially from a security perspective.

I think nothing in FLOSS goes the way of the dodo.
Development continues as UBports nowadays, but they still call it Ubuntu Touch.

Developing an "Alternative to Google Android" OS, that (almost) only runs on Google Android devices.
I'm not saying it's wrong to do that, but there's something double-minded about it. Or maybe call it selective blindness.
Who knows what kernel blobs have been taken over straight from the original Google Android image, or where the firmware itself phones home to...
Not that other devices are much better, though.

Don't want to spit in your soup, I'm sure it's a fine device for precisely that purpose, and not expensive on ebay.

Thanks for that - I did look at it years ago, but dropped it as it was quite immature. Might be time to re-flash that bad boy; might solve my (lack of) security update concerns.

^ I don't think UBports is your only choice.
Other projects that mention Nexus 5:

And what was the name of that Android fork that aims to be opensource only, no blobs at all...
