Why won't separate ext4 home partition show in Nautilus in Mint 10?

I have this configuration on my laptop:

1. NTFS windows 7 partition 122 GB
2. Extended linux mint 10 partition 108GB including:

3. ext4 root partition, 14.75 GB
4. linux-swap partition, 5.06 GB
5. ext4 home partition, 88.68 GB

6.fat32 HP_TOOLS 2 GB (windows system info tool)

The problem is that mint won't show my home folder as a separate partition. In other words, nautilus file manager (on the left side and when you click computer)only shows the filesystem partition. The home partition must be mounted correctly, 'cause if I right click > properties on the home folder, it says I have 82.6 GB free, which is only possible if it's mounted correctly.

In Ubuntu 10.10 I could see my home partition. Is this normal in Mint?

You are saying that in Nautilus on the left side it does not show a folder called "Alex"? If so, that is your home directory.

No, it's not that. I can see my "Alex" home folder, I just can't see it as a separate partition. But, for instance when I click the "Computer" icon, I can only see the "filesystem" partition (apart of course from the windows ones). When I had ubuntu for example, when I clicked "Computer", I could see the "filesystem" partition and the "home" partition.

I do not have a "Computer" icon on the left side of Nautilus in either Mint or Ubuntu. Also, the contents on the left side are very similar.

Oh, you are talking about the "computer" icon on the desktop, aren't you? In Ubuntu 10.04 when I double-click on that, the home partition does not show up - although it is a separate partition as shown in GPartEd

If it is the home partition, it is mounted in /home. If it is mounted in /home, all you have to do is browse to /home and you're already in it. And since your user profile is a subdirectory of /home, you couldn't log in if it wasn't recognized.

There's nothing actually wrong with my system, I can do all the things normally. I was just wondering why the home partition doesn't show up as a separate one in nautilus, even though it's mounted correctly and works fine. Thanks for your help anyhow.

It shouldn't. If your home directory happens to be on it, it should show it as part of the system, because if it wasn't recognized you couldn't log in.
