why is it that every time I misspell something a get a strange message?

Code:

$ sud
WARNING:root:could not open file '/etc/apt/sources.list'

what does me mistyping something have to do with root not being able to open the sources file, especially when that has nothing to do with something getting mistype.

How to stop Mint from giving me irrelevant information?

There are some resources on the Internet about it.
Are the following pointers of any help?

yes that looks to help, but does not explain why it is trying to open the source list every time something is misspelled. That is some strange default behavior to go straight to the sources.list and try to open it without the needed phrase being issued, apt or apt-get, and not even being root, or using sudo. As, apt 'this or that' is new to me. it seems dumbed down from apt-get and apt-cache. which is a topic for another day.

when I boot back into Mint, I'll issue that 'fix' and see what it does. thanks!!

Your shell has been configured to search for a source for any command you type that is not currently installed. It uses your package manager to do that. Here's one reference. YMMV.

this is the only distro I've ever seen give me that root cannot open source file, the command not found message I'm use to.

so it is or is not in .bashrc in /home is it, as I have a habit of copying over my .bashc an adding to it and sharing it with other distros and not really giving it a good look over at times to see what it has in it, and having a few of them saved here and there.

I just drop the .bashrc in home at times just to get my prompt to look like i want instead of whatever it is at the time of install. anyways the point being, this isn't in the .bashrc but somewhere else within the system?

and

YMMV , I dont know that one. Your Mom Mates Varmints? :D

You will only see that message if the package manager is misconfigured.

I have no idea how that feature is enabled or disabled. I don't have it installed at all.
