using wicd instead of network manager

I messed my system up the last time I downloaded wicd and then removed network manager. I never could get it back. I had a thread for help and a lot of people tried to help me but I don't have the knowledge to even be helped sometimes. It was a 3 page thread and several days of support.

What happened was when I rebooted after removing network manager I could login and then the screen went black. I could then go to the txt mode with ctrl+alt+f * . I could never get the right Xorg.log in order to find what was wrong.

What I want to know is since my netowrk manager (after reinstalling ) is dropping me and having trouble connectiing and since wicd works fine if I download wicd and then DISABLE network manager instead of removing it will that work? I would not be removing anything so it seems to me it would work but I don't know how to disable network manager either.

Thanks,
Nate

after i removed network-manager it took a while to boot up after i logged in but it did and I have wicd running so this one is solved ... it just runs my wireless network so much more solid ... no waiting for it to connect no dropping connection. so I'm happy and this is solved
