USB external drive problem with exFAT drives.
USB external drive problem with exFAT it says it will only work with Windows 10 and Windows XP. It warns if you reformat it will destroy the drive. It is an cheap 2 Terabyte one which works straight away with Windows but first opens a Word document which gives the warning.
I am using Linux Mint 19.2 and have other USB externals working OK but they were formatted in NTFS.
I have installed the recommended exFat utils
sudo apt install exfat-fuse exfat-utils linux-util
However the drive does make a beep when connected on a Linux Desktop. but it is not seen in files it is seen in Drive but says unknown system and when I use Gparted to examine it gives
Distribution: Mainly Devuan with some Tiny Core, Fatdog, Haiku, & BSD thrown in.

If it will only work with Microsoft it is defective - & if it wasn't very clearly stated before purchase, you would be entitled to have it replaced by a proper drive that works with all computer systems.
Personally, I'd reformat it with a new partition & file system, & if it didn't work, return it as 'faulty goods'.

That is what the label says. I bought two. I cannot say they are defective because they work with Windows. I will just sell them to mugs who have infectious Windows. There are a great deal of them about. They were only £13 so I will easily get £50 of course only for Windows people and warn them if they format with anything other than exFAT then they are doomed.
