USB audio from Behrenger U-Phoria UMC22 shows on Pulse Audio but I can't hear it!
I'm running Linux Mint 20 on a Dell Optiplex 9020. I can use a Blue Yeti USB mike on Discord with no problems. However, I want to send analog stereo audio into my Optiplex through USB. I've tried to use a Behrenger Xenyx302 USB mini-mixer. No dice.
I've purchased a Behrenger U-Phoria UMC22 audio interface, because it reportedly works well with Linux. With a little work I can see a moving graph with the digital audio on it, using the Pulse Audio volume control. But I can't hear anything on the headphones. It doesn't show on the original audio mixer that came with Linux Mint. It is not showing up as muted. Should I uninstall and reinstall the audio programs to see if that helps? Is there some kind of driver I need to install to make it work? |
With a little time, I found pavucontrol and found that the USB interface IS functioning. But I still can't get the audio into the system proper. Again, does anyone have any suggestions about how to proceed? https://imgur.com/a/lGpCxNJ

Have you checked the output signal is actually going to the headphone jack..

Yes. I am showing as the active input (meaning the VU meter is jumping) Digital Input - S/PDIF - UMC204HD 192 K. I show the output as Headphones - Built-In Audio. No sound, but on the second interface I bought - the Behringer U-Phoria UMC20-4HD, the input indicators are flashing, and when I plug a headphone directly into the interface I hear the audio. But it isn't getting through to my computer for recording, or listening on the computer's headphone jack.
I am wondering if I need to add JACK to the system, and find out how to patch the digital audio that's clearly entering the computer into the general audio system (I think it's ALSA). The internet posts about JACK are confusing, but if it's an electronic equivalent to the audio jack panels I used in my old TV job, I can figure it out. Your thoughts? (I guess the next step will be to fire up my old Windows 10 laptop and see if the interface will work/capture there.) |
