Updates on Mint Debian

Hello,

I've installed LMDE on my home machine, which is a Dell XPS L502X. Currently I'm using MATE as my default desktop, and it's working just fine, very stable.

There's only one thing that concerns me: at work I use Debian, and almost everyday I have updates popping up. But in LMDE I never had any updates at all, since a month! Is that normal? Does LMDE update the system automaticaly and quietly, or it is just not updating?

Thanks at all!

Hi,

sorry I don't know the specifics of LMDE but you can check for updates by running
Code:
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

Hi,

Thank you for answering, but actually it's the exact answer I'm looking for. I know I can run apt-get update && apt-get upgrade, but in Debian the system tells me automatically that some updates are available, and I'm looking for that in Mint Debian.

Thanks at all!

Check that you have the package update-notifier installed and, if you do, check in Synaptic under Settings->Repositories on the Updates tab. I have mine set to check daily and display immediately. I am running Debian at the moment but as far as I recall I had the same setup with Mint.

Hey, thanks for the reply!! I didn't have update-notifier on my system!! I'm a little surprised because LMDE comes with lots of stuff by default, but doesn't come with a tool a basic as this one.

Well, now I installed update-notifier! Do I need to configurate it, or do I have just to install, and it reports me the updates automatically? I've done now the same thing as you did in Synaptic!

Thanks a lot!

I have to admit I'm not sure exactly which packages deal with the updates. If you don't see an update in the next couple of days [or more since it's weekend] then maybe have a look again.

Did I solve it? Are you seeing updates suggested?
