Switching user glitches greeter screen

Hi, my issue is, as the subject line states: I switch users, i.e. without logging out, and the greeter screen glitches and becomes all but unusable. Parts of the screen will flicker, and user selection is impossible.

This is on Mint 18.3 xfce.

I thought the greeter may be the problem, so I changed slick-greeter for lightdm-gtk-greeter, but the problem persists.

Thanks for reading and I'd really appreciate hints as to how to solve this.

Let's clarify: this happens only when you switch users, not when you log in/out?

Also some info about graphics hardware & drivers, please.

@ondoho:

Yes, only when switching users. If I log out, then log in as a different user, this doesn't happen.
Code:

$ lspci | grep VGA

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 630 (rev 04)

Code:

$ find /dev -group video

/dev/fb0
/dev/dri/card0
/dev/dri/renderD128

Code:

$ glxinfo | grep -i vendor

server glx vendor string: SGI
client glx vendor string: Mesa Project and SGI
    Vendor: VMware, Inc. (0xffffffff)
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.

I'm not quite sure what the find /dev.. and glxinfo... actually report. I found that over on askubuntu and thought it may be useful.

Thanks for reading!
