Not able to start the live session from installation media

Downloaded Mint 18.1 cinnamon 64 bit to install on msi Gl62 6qf laptop. The session is forever trying to load but never gets around to loading the desktop. Just the mint logo and those shining dots.

I'd give it a good 5 minutes before giving up. Then there's boot options. For my sins, I had an Sis 6326 video card and no linux would see it, because the 16 vga modes were used for compatibility reasons weren't provided in the sis 6326. The solution was to boot with
Code:
linux text
and use an ncurses interface.

That was bacvk then. Find the boot options today for mint, and try some of them. There's always something for crappy video issues.

When I said 'forever' I meant, I left it on for the night and went to sleep My first desktop had a SiS adapter with 1mb RAM. no linux though. I'd preferably find the boot options that is hopefully as distro agnostic as possible, but mint is a good start as I've been using it for some years now.

Thanks for the link. I'll try those detailed steps in the 'Solving Freezes' section and see what works.
