Network Manager Missing from LM 18.3 Mate

Fresh installation of LM 18.3 KDE on an 64-bit AMD desktop. Runs great.

I wanted the Mate DE so I installed it. However; the Software Center won't install Network Manager and the internet connection is not working because the Network Mgr doesn't exist.

Is this the right package to install on my friends LM 18.3 Mate?

Why do you need an extra package to get an internet connection? It should work out of the box. Entering "netw" into the menu's search box should bring up links to "Network", "Network Connections" and "Network Proxy". Entering dpkg -l *netw* into the command line should show you that you have network-manager and network-manager-gnome installed.

No, you shouldn't be installing a Trusty package on a Mint 18.3 system, which is equivalent to Xenial.

Also, out of interest, why did you install Linux Mint KDE, just to then install the MATE desktop environment? Why didn't you install Mint MATE? Mint doesn't support KDE and MATE together as well as say Slackware would do.

As I said before in my first post; the Software Center is not working.
And for some reason Network Manager is not in the Mate tray on the desktop.

I looked here twice but couldn't find the pkg network manager so I can install it.

Does anyone have a clue where I can download network manager for Mint?

IS there a reason why I couldn't use this?

OR here?

As I said before, KDE and MATE do not work well together on Mint. Not only that, but this will be the last supported KDE flavour that Mint will produce. As of version 19 (out in a matter of months), there will no longer be a supported Mint KDE version.

I suggest you start again and install Mint 18.3 MATE from scratch. The network should then work out of the box.

Can you point me to the article or the documentation that states that KDE and Mate don't work together?

-::-Some confirmation before I trash a few hours worth of installation set up; etc.-::-

Just a very quick selection (search the Linux Mint forum for "mixing desktop environments"):

Just on a general note, I've fairly successfully installed Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce on the same Mint system, apart from the system menus having duplicate entries etc., but the one time I tried to install KDE alongside another desktop environment on Mint it was an unmitigated disaster and I vowed never to try it again. I'm just attempting to save you future problems in addition to the networking one you're currently experiencing.

I read through the links that you posted. That's enough confirmation for me-
Thank You; hydrurga for taking the time to post that.

I'm downloading LM 18.3 Mate now:-

A fresh installation of LM 17.3 Mate went well and runs great!

I found the network manager pkg btw, network-manager-gnome_1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.2_amd64.deb however it wouldn't install w/o 2 dependencies that couldn't be satisfied.

Great to hear, Ztcoracat. Why 17.3 though and not 18.3?
