SUMMARY FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT TO ACTUALLY READ THE THREAD
* The system will boot from an external medium/drive, if that medium is created properly -- GPT partitioning and 32bit-UEFI-compatible boot scheme.
* The current install of Mint (to the internal medium/drive) will not boot. I believe at this time that this is entirely a GRUB issue, and would really like to know how to "update-grub" without being able to boot the installation on which I need to "update-grub".
* FROM THE LIVE MEDIUM I CREATED I have audio working, but not WiFi and not Bluetooth.
* I do not care about getting WiFi and Bluetooth working at this time. The WiFi antenna inside the system is wimpy as **** (it's a little piece of foil FFS) and I have no use for Bluetooth.
* The system can be connected to the Internet. Right now, since the install to the internal medium is not bootable, that involves booting from an external medium. I have an external WiFi adapter connected via USB hub for the purpose of Internet access on the system. (The hub has its own power source, as well -- the system's internal voltage regulators are too wimpy to handle a four-port hub with three ports used!)
* Given that the system will not boot from the install I created, and given that (at least for now) I'm satisfied with having audio working and not WiFi/BT, I see no benefit in running the command requested from a live medium. If I am wrong, correct me and I'll go ahead and do it.
