Question My trouble with LinuxMint 17.1 Cinnamon

Hey,

I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about as it concerned LinuxMint 17.1. I downloaded the ISO and burned it to a DVD + R disc. However before I did that I checked to be sure the MD5SUM were the same, and they matched. That is when I thought it safe to burn the ISO onto the Disc. I used K3B.

I put the disc into the appropriate tray and rebooted. The first thing that came up after the restart was the LinuxMint Logo at the top center announcing a count down to LinuxMint starting. So far not all that out of the ordinary. The screen went grey fro a couple seconds at most then the screen went black, with just the LinuxMint Logo in the center.

After a minute or two the Logo was no longer there and in its place was the cursor. I waited roughly three maybe close to four minutes for this Fershugenna LinuxMint to do something, anything but it did nothing. I tapped 'Enter' two three four times in the vain hope that such a move would do something, fat chance of that >

In desperation I hit; Ctl + Alt + F7. This opened a 'new' screen where at the upper left side was some text which I could not make out. I hit Alt+F2 which opened a terminal like:
mint@Mint$~ (This is from memory so it may not be exact) In any case, I typed 'guest' recalling how some distro's had passwords for people just wanting to try the distro before installing it full. It asked for the password and here I typed in 'root'.

It would not allow me to proceed any further without the 'proper' password which I obviously did not have!!!! > I removed the disc from the tray. Powered off from the Tower then restarting my PC.

I am so angry that I want to take this useless DVD disc and fling it across the room but I did not, at least no yet. The option remains viable.

I wish I could have made and save some screen shots of what I saw but that was not feasible. I am running Manjaro KDE 0.8.11, not that that should make a difference?

I took two snapshots to indicate my PC recognized the 'LinuxMint' Disk and the second snapshot is that Disc opened in Dolphin File Folder.

Does this in any way help?

I have installed several flavors of Mint including 17 (but not 17.1) and have not encountered anything like this; I'm running v. 17 on one of my computers right now. In my experience the Mint Live DVD does not require passwords and the installation routine is one of the easiest I've encountered.

Did you get the *.ISO image directly from the Mint site and did you check the MD5 sum before burning it?

Sounds like it frankbell. Like frankbell. My Mint 17 Mate 64 bit install has been brain dead easy on me also on my
Samsung RV 510. No experience with 17.1 either with me. I avoid Cinnamon out of personal preference.

Not a very constructive attitude. I fix machines for a living and do not throw wrenches but stop and think instead.

First screeny of file manager not too helpful. Second screeny waaaay to small to make out.

Maybe in Manjero you could post a inxi report or something to give exact specs on your video chip set and drivers used plus other specs on your computer. Because frankly. We are flying blind here.

Edit: Here is a example on my freebie laptop

2nd edit: if manjero gives inxi command not found. Just do a google search "inxi install"
Follow the arch instructions for install. It is just a 1 line terminal command install.
Not hard at all. If I can install it in puppy linux. It should be easy in manjero.

3rd edit. Looking at your photobucket screenshot and using the magnify glass icon at photobucket to see your 2nd screeny. No. It is not a big help either just looking at a Manjero screenshot of a desktop with some files showing. Sorry, I tried.
