Moving items within File Manager.

Hi.
I used to use the file manager Dolphin, it was great coz the screen could be split.
This was great for moving things to folders and i used it a lot. The big reason i loved it was because i'd use the split screen for moving songs to and from my music player.
However the Dolphin that was downloaded from the package manager looks so much different than the one i've been used to. Obviously its the latest version of it, but it looks awful.

This time around i'm using Thunar and it seems fine but it doesn't have the split screen feature, unless it does and i've missed seeing it.
I can open Dolphin just for doing the things i've mentioned and then close the thing, but it would be good if i could only have to use Thunar.
Is there a way of doing those things without using Dolphin?

O-oh, just realized i should of put this in the software forum, sorry about that.
Maybe it could be transferred?

No you're not missing anything. Thunar doesn't offer dual pane.

I don't think so.

Maybe other members will know a way around it.

I've been using dolphin for years and have the latest version. I don't notice any difference so maybe you're missing some configurations to set it up the way you want.
What is it you don't like about it now?

Can you open two instances of Thunar and copy files between them? (I don't have Thunar to test with.)

I prefer Konqueror to Dolphin as a file manager, as you can have multiple tabs open in Konqueror. Over there on that other computer, I have five tabs open in Konqueror, pointing to five different directories, as well as several file manager "Profiles" saved. I can't drag-and-drop between tabs, but I can copy-and-paste (Before Dolphin came along, Konqueror was the default KDE file manager, as well as the KDE browser. My, I'm getting old.)

Which desktop environment are you using? I would assume Xfce, given that you're using Thunar, but just checking...

On MATE, Caja offers split-screen (F3) - it works well. I'm not sure how Caja works on an Xfce setup though (Dolphin may not look good for you simply because you're installing it on a Xfce setup without all the configuration/theming that's auto done when it's part of a KDE setup).

I just checked on my system as I use XFCE and my file mgr is Thunar.-:)

With Dolphin no matter which of the 3 views i choose all i get is text only, no icons.
I'm using MATE at the moment, should i be using something else then? How do i change it?

MATE comes with Caja which has split-screen capability. If you installed a MATE distro flavour, it should have been the default. Which distro are you using?
