Mint8: BCM4312 wifi card, restricted drivers issue

Hello,

Last nite I downloaded Mint 8, made a bootable USB key and used it on my laptop. I knew ahead of time that I would have to use restricted drivers for my wifi card, so I went ahead and loaded them. However, because I didn't enable 'persistence' on the USB key, I could not reboot and have the driver settings stick. So since I could load the drivers in Live mode, I went ahead and installed Mint 8 to the hard drive.

After installation was finished, first thing I did after login in is enable the restricted drivers for my wifi card. This time around it didn't work like it did in Live mode and got an error message about not being able to access the repository to get the drivers.

I find it odd that the drivers would load and no error messages were given in Live mode. That indicated to me that the drivers were already there. So why is it that after installing Mint to the hard drive, it cannot find the same drivers?

Hopefully someone is familiar with this issue and can shed a light on how to go fixing it.

I'm using a different laptop, but if needed, I can paste the full error message later on today.

Thank you.

UPDATE: I went to the top level Distributions forum and searched for an answer to my issue and a hit came from the Ubuntu forum. I downloaded the necessary files at another computer, placed them in a USB stick, and followed the steps given but still cannot get the wireless card working. I'm not giving up just yet, though. :-)
