mint17, lacks ffmpeg, and gstrreamer, or how do I use them

Trying to do some downloads from youtube, I installed an add-on called "downloadhelper". I've used it in previous versions of linux and it 'just worked'. But this one doesn't. It was set on using ffmpeg to do the conversion of a video, but I discovered that ffmpeg is not in the system. So I went to install it, and discovered that it doesn't occur in the repository either. There are a lot of items that use 'ffmpeg' as a part of their name, but nothing that is just named ffmpeg. One of those

I suppose that it might be in the system, but under a different name, and I just don't know what to call it. This is an hp Pavilion computer a6110, using Firefox.

You can install ffmpeg from sources.

That particular links suggests using ysam for an assembler. You could also use gcc, which is more traditional Linux approach; gcc is in the repos.
