Question Mint 19.1 - panel items keep disappearing

Recently I moved to Mint Cinnamon 19.1. Most everything is great, smooth process.

One strange thing relates to the panel. I've searched on this forum and on the whole web and haven't found anything regarding this.

The icons on the panel disappear randomly. Firefox and Google Earth seem to be the most common culprits. They may stick around a few days then they are gone. If I go the menu and right click on one of these applications, choosing "add to panel" it reappears at the spot it was before on the panel, not at the right end like a new item usually would.

Not crippling, but irritating in that it interrupts normal workflow...

Any ideas?

I don't know Cinnamon like the back of my hand, but are there config files behind the panel and its applets that you could look into? Like see if they're getting reset every time you log in, or if something's up with their permissions?

Sounds possible although I almost never reboot or log off. I'll try logging off an on again, see what happens.

I found this on the first page of Google from Googling your topic title:

https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxmint/c...ng_from_panel/

I don't know if that helps but can't hurt trying.

Also you could have a look at these which may be related

OK, read the links above and tried a couple, esp. the "themes" one. None seems to work. I had to reboot for the first time in a while, and all came back, so it does somehow know they are there even when they disappear...

I guess I am getting used to it and will live with it for now!

I don't know if it was in any of your links, but have you tried resetting the Cinnamon panel?

Right-click on an empty area of the panel and select Troubleshoot->Restore all settings to default.

OK, can confirm that all come back with "restore" - which still doesn't explain why they keep disappearing but I will mark solved anyhow since I can live with this. An update will fix soon I suspect!

I'd file a bug report or search for one similar if you want to be confident that will happen
