Post Mint 18.3 Cinnamon | Can't Open a Directory in Terminal from GUI

If I navigate to a directory and right-click on the folder and select "Open in Terminal", terminal always opens in the home directory.

This wasn't always the case, and I don't remember the changes I have made that led to this.

I currently have my terminal run tmux by default (appended the following to my ~/.bashrc
Code:
if [[ ! $TERM =~ screen ]]; then
    exec tmux
fi
, however, removing these didn't fix the problem, and I can't seem to diagnose what is).

I would appreciate your help in figuring out what's going on.

Just a thought.

I'd install xterm or some other term and set as default via preferred applications in the system settings. Then see if it works, if it works. You know it's gnome-terminal specific and if it doesn't then you know it's something messed up in the environment.

I use xterm on all my systems and it always opens in my home directory.

you could change the file manager action (or create a new one) to explicitely open the terminal in the chosen directory.
most terminal emulators have a command line option for that.
