Mint 17 stalls past opening splash screen
Hi
I have been having trouble getting Linux to start. First it takes ages for the Linux start up screen to display(ie the one that shows Linux 17 and 4 progress indicator dots underneath). After that process has presumably gone through, normally the log the splash and then log-in screen will follow. But now it freezes at this point.
The only way to get it to start is to insert the install DVD and wait for it to load and then do a Restart. This is a very time-consuming way. My uni exams are in 2 weeks' time so I would appreciate if any of the experts in this forum can help me solve this problem.
I have put it to Sleep since the problem reared its ugly head, but cannot explain why, it "died in its sleep" yesterday when I have to go through this time consuming process again.
Sometimes, the text screen will pop up with options to start normally, recovery mode, check memory etc. (can't remember). Selecting either start normally or rescue mode does not do the trick either.
I wonder if this could be hardware problem?
Thanks very much for any help!
