Hi, I want to be able to use a live usb mint desktop from time to time, but want a couple more programs installed than are there by default. Is there any way to install a program, and "save" it to the live usb drive so that it will be there next time I boot from it?
This is called "persistence". Mint isn't particularly designed for that, and the "workarounds" to support it appear to differ from version to version, but if you search on the internet for "mint persistence", you should find some info.
Other than the manual ways to add persistence, you can use the excellent MultiSystem program.
That allows you to add multiple .iso files to your USB drive, and boot any of them. You can add persistence to ONE of them.
It works. I have tested it with Mint 17.3
