LinuxMint 11

I just came across LinuxMint 11 the other day. I installed it on a couple of machines. One is a Core i7 920 with a GTX260 and the other is a Dell Vostro 200 with onboard graphics.

Looks good on both. So far so good. No issues with installation. The Core i7 machine is on my wired network and the Vostro is on my wireless 802.11g network.

[I didn't download this at home. I'm still on a 56K dial-up system! Unfortunately it's the only option here! All sympathy vibes accepted! ]

Wow! You just came across Linux Mint 11?

Sorry, I couldn't resist;P

Linux Mint is a fine rendition of GNU/Linux, should work well for you. When you tire of it try Arch Linux.

You should note that Mint 11 is a RC (and has some Bugs,Check the Linux Mint Forums) The last stable is Linux Mint 10 Mint 9 is a LTS You should be careful installing Mint 11 on your main Computer-Back Up your Important data.

Thanks for the heads up. I did notice it was RC. The two computers I installed it on are not primary. So, if anything craps out, I can re-install or try something else.

I install 11rc some days before, and found nothing strange. I still works fine.

i installed linux mint 11 tonight, not a beta version anymore...fairly happy so far, got dvd to play dvd,s without too much problem...did not have sound, so i had to configure that in the sound preferances of the sound icon in taskbar...had to configure input and output with what i was using for sound.

Greetings, all!

The thing I liked about Ubuntu was that you could upgrade right OVER the older version with no problem.

I have been using LinuxMint, version 8 for a couple of years and really like it, but would like to UPGRADE to version 11. However, I have read that you cannot safely upgrade version 11 OVER version 8, but need to uninstall version 8 before upgrading. Is this true? I am not all that savvy and that sounds like a LOT of work. What would you recommend?
