Awesome. I have been using Mint for a while now, and really enjoy it. I also use some of the "less easy" distros to try and learn about Linux, but it was distros like Mint that drew me here from windoze. I hope to learn the command line well enough to be profeciant enough to use any linux distro, but I know that will take much time end effort.
Thanks for bringing Mint here.

Heyas minter.
There is allways things that arise with every distro, even mint. But if you keep it rather simple and the way its installed its a rather good and working distro.

I love it on my laptop even if im a rather experienced linux user I love the that everything on my laptop works with mint (ubuntu).

http://www.linuxmint.de/downloads.html

we have

1. Main Edition

2. Universal Edition...

Which on i have to download which works on my Laptop

i have

1.4Ghz Processor

512MB of RAM

1MB Cache..

heffo_j 03-20-2009 07:31 AM

Welcome luckybtn,

Both editions are about the same except that the main edition has all the multimedia files ready to go where as the Universal one has them disabled for those people living in countries where using the various codecs violate copyright laws. Most people use the Main edition.

Further details are found on this LM page:

http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

The Linux Mint forum has a German community as well at:

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforu...00c53ab5c15b1d

If your machine is a little underpowered for the main edition you might like to try the XFCE Edition which runs with less overhead.

Best regards
John

Hi Dear Heffo_j

I have downloaded the Universal one... now can i download the software of my Need...???

heffo_j 03-21-2009 03:51 PM

Yes you can. You will find that your music and video programs won't play all your favourite tunes because the codecs are missing. However, they are there to download.

Once you have LM installed go to the software manager and wait for it to load up for the first time. This can take a long time. Look for the software you need and download it.

The other source of software is Package Manager. This takes a while to get the hang of for a first timer, as there is no obvious difference in the lists as to what is a desktop application as apposed to a backend tool. However, once it is started type codecs in the search panel and you will see what you need to download.

Best of luck with your install.

John
