Gnome-ppp disconnect problem using an external usb modem for dialup

I posted this on the official Linux Mint forum but I guess no one there had this problem as I received no replies:

I am using gnome-ppp to connect to the internet through a dial-up connection using an external usb modem.

The problem is that when I use the gnome-ppp interface to disconnect, it doesn't, ie, if I then try to re-connect by clicking 'connect', gnome-ppp returns a msg saying that it cannot find the modem.

I must reboot to reconnect.

Is there a way around rebooting to reconnect?

Thanks,

Hello,

You've marked your thread as solved. If you've found a working solution would you please post your findings so that others with a similar problem can see if it works for them too? Thanks in advance for sharing with the LQ community.

Kind regards,

Eric

Sorry about this - the problem was the user, me!

It turns out that if you click the Gnome-ppp telephone icon and click 'Quit', it doesn't but if you click on the taskbar network connection icon (the two little pc's) and disconnect, it does.
