Posting this for a friend who is running Linux Mint. She charges her laptop in the evening to 100% turns it off and in the morning reboots to 99% battery. Following evening charges again to 100%, closes all programs, closes the cover which suspends after 15 minutes and locks and in the morning her battery is down to 56% battery.
What can I tell her to check? Is something running in the background?
Is there something in the menu she can open to see what apps or processes are running when the system is not being used causing this battery drain?

Reason: additonal statement
Has she ever gone through a full cycle to have the OS calibrated to the battery (IE - fully drained, fully charged)? Sounds like the battery is just starting to give up the ghost. If it's over a year old and been used plugged in most of the time, then there's a very good chance it's just unable to hold proper charge anymore due to the constant pressure of being trickle charged nonstop for hours at a time.

She does not trickle charge it. There were times the laptop would shut down while she was using it due to it being fully drained. Mostly it would be charged once she saw the battery level down to 10% remaining.

You can tell her to shut the computer down, not suspend it. There are several types of 'suspend', some use more power than others. They ALL use power, so having the battery drain isn't uncommon. https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v4.1...ep-states.html
You (again) omit details about the system (brand/model/age), so it's hard to speculate. Also hard to know why your 'friend' can't post their own question.
