My linux mint machine connects to the internet through an ethernet connection to my router which is connected to a broadband modem. I also have a windows 7 machine connected wirelessly through the same router. Yesterday after an internet outage and subsequent phonecall to the cable company's tech support, I was advised to execute an 'ipconfig /renew' from my windows machine. This fixed the internet issue on that machine, however now my linux machine shows 'cable unplugged' on my ethernet connection.

After a day of research, I can't seem to find anything that resolves this issue. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, that didn't resolve the issue. It still says 'cable unplugged'.

Disregard. It seems I have a bad cable. I could have sworn I connected directly to the modem with a different cable to rule out the possibility of a bad cable but the evidence indicates otherwise. My apologies for wasting a post but thank you for the help.
