Downloading Problem

Installed Linux Mint 17.2, when downloading using Firefox, if the download is a tar file it goes to ARK, not Downloads folder! is the any way to make it go straight to Downloads folder, short of deleting ARK?

For Firefox if you visit the Edit menu, there should be a Preferences choice.

In there if you look under the General tab you should see a section for Downloads where you can set it to save files to: ... and you can also check "Always ask me where to save files" so that it doesn't automatically choose the set-default folder, but asks you. I believe when you have it ask you all the time it either remembers your last save location or it starts in the default, but allows you to choose a different location.

kujirasan
so you are replacing the DEFAULT installed firefox with the firefox from mozilla web site ?

-- the current 64 bit is here today it is 39.0.3
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla..../linux-x86_64/

you are aware that you might have issues with browser plugins this way
you might need to make a NEW "plugins" folder in the location you install the second firefox
for example if you install the second firefox ( after uninstalling the one installed by default in the OS )
/opt/firefix

you might have to link /usr/lib64/browser-plugins to
/opt/firefox/browser/plugins
but FIRST you will need to make the "browser" folder in the new firefox install location

rtmistler:
Thanks for your reply, I have done all that in preferences, it does not work, the only way it works is; if the archive program is deleted.
The only way to get around it to completely delete the Firefox, and replaced, either with Firefox, or Debian's Iceweasel, which is a better choice , give that now it is update-able!
