CAD program for Ubuntu on Linux Mint
 

I am looking for free CAD programs to install on my Linux Mint system.. I want at least one to be able to read Autocad dxf files. I found 2D DraftSight which does but only gives directions for Ubuntu "You can download the .deb package and install it on Ubuntu based distributions" so how do I install it on Mint?

In fact why don't Linux distros agree on a standard system of installation files and methods?

Did you bother with even the simplest of searches ? - "install deb file linux mint" finds a tutorial from the Mint community site as first hit for me.

Its likely double clicking the deb from your file manager will do all the necessaries.

I use FreeCAD, a free parametric modeller which can import dxf files plus a shed load of other formats. I use it for designing stuff to 3D print.

It's also available in Mint via the package manager plus you can add the FreeCAD repository to your updater so you can keep it current. Check out youtube for tutorials. It's taken me quite a while to teach myself how to use it but being able to adjust some of the dimensions of the things I'm designing, e.g. screw hole sizes, and have the model updated in virtually real time is brilliant. :D
