Brightness Indicator appearing randomly.

Maybe someone on this forum can help. It's been on the Linux Mint forum since December with no real attempt made to solve this.

Rather than repost everything, the details can be found here:

There are only 7 replies, most from me, and include output to dmesg | tail and lspci.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me solve this. I thought I had the solution, but turned out not to work.
