Audio Recorder not recognizing built in Mic signal but PulseAudio Volume Control does. Linuxmint 21.2 Cinnamon installed on 3 computers. Recorder is installed on 3 computers, MacBook Pro laptop, iMac and Dell inspiron 1520 laptop. Configured the same on all 3. Does not work on Dell laptop. It did work on Dell laptop until I upgraded to 21.2. I reinstalled Recorder but still does not recognize signal from internal mic even though pulse does.

No answers, but some questions.

Is this this "Audio Recorder" application or something else?

When you refer to the "pulse audio volume control," are you referring to the simple volume control or to the Pulse Audio Mixer (pavucontrol)?

Have you tested with another recording application, such as Ardour or Audacity to rule out a hardware issue?

I did install and try "Recorder" simple audio recorder from https://github.com/alexkdeveloper/recorder which did not record anything either. Will Install Audacity to see what happens. Since pavucontrol gets input from the internal mic, that makes me think it is not a hardware problem. audio-recorder was working before I upgraded 21.2.

I am going to install 21.1 on another drive and see what happens.

I have no experience with that application and I regret to say that I don't have any clue as to what the problem may be, but I think your testing strategy is a good one.

installed Audacity. It recorded sound from the Internal mic.

I put a drive in the Dell laptop that has Linuxmint Cinnamon 21.1 on it. I installed audio-recorder from launchpad. It is recording sound from the internal mic.

I updated the extra drive that has 21.1 on it and audio-recorder still works after the update.

I next upgraded to 21.2 audio-recorder still works. I do not have pavucontrol installed on it.

Installed pavucontrol to see if that was the problem. audio-recorder still works.

What should I look at on my regular drive to compare what is different and causing audio-recorder to not take input from the internal mic?
