Yes, I have about 8 Linux DVD .iso downloads, a lot of pics/movies and add-on programs in /home. The problem is how to find the offending problem/cfg file(s) in that /home directory. History: I installed some cool programs that required my OK for the KDE desktop inclusion -and- some time ago I used the website "/sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/Home" to make menu changes. What a mistake that turned out to be, as I found out later that moving the "Hibernate" menu choice icon to another (?) folder CHANGES THE PERMISSIONS OF FOLDER(S)!! [OMG!!]
I think I am looking at a clean LM18.3 DVD install then using the many GB of backup files from that usb3 64GB sdxc.
roman, Thank you for your post above (mixing DeskTops, older config files) that helped me decide on a clean 18.3 Cinnamon64 re-install. In my past it was not that traumatic with a GigaLAN and 850 Pro SSD . . . plus there is therapy value in purging old/useless files with a new start.
