I figured since there was a section on screenshots I would add my own to the list.

The whole filesystem is 2.2 GB large (excluding /root) and runs entirely in Ram.

Every program starts up instantaneously with the exception of gimp which takes a little over a second to start.

Bootup time is also fantastic at a incredible 14 seconds.

This laptop running Linux lasts for 6 to 7 hours on battery and that was doing things like compiling, watching a couple flash videos, editing a few scripts, and creating a complex model in blender.

Do you mean a SSD? Reading an entire filesystem into memory would take longer than 14 seconds...

Yes the laptop has a Solid State Drive however I did a benchmark of Read/Write speed and ram access is still faster.

That said, I said bootup time. Not boot into RAM time. I didn't set it up to boot automatically into RAM as that would create problems with updating the filesystem.

I found that using two scripts (one to squashfs and one to make the ramfs and unsquashfs the image) was a LOT faster than just creating a ramfs and then using the "CP" command.

It takes on average 16 or so seconds to copy the squashfs filesystem into ram, chroot into it, and mount the appropriate system related directories such as "/dev /sys and /proc". I also mount /root into the ramfs because I store all my personal files there.

In Windows 7 I usually get 2 hours of battery life doing the exact same things posted above.

Could you be a little more specific? I'm curious how you have this setup.
