I can certainly see what you mean; I often do choose very minimalist desktop-setups (like last week's setup), but I thought I'd try something a bit different this time.
Well, for different, that IS different. Is this your work-machine or the one at home?
I was NOT allowed any background...after they found out just what my tastes were (back then...)
Cool, I tried CrunchBang once, liked it, but I installed XFCE on it, suits me better...
Eh, I only change background every once in a while...the rest is standard...looks nice enuff to me. This is one of my home boxes. I've got five workable boxes and four experimetals (install-try-forget about it )
I'm not in IT ing anymore...
If you don't mind my asking, how did you get them? I'm trying to figure out the best way to acquire free/cheap desktop boxes.
Well, and I do NOT mind you asking at all , it's one of those "benefits" of being the only "computerguy" in the family: they just give 'em to ya! Lemme count:
- current system, bought second hand (the only one in the house), there are shops here in Flanders (like this one)
- server, a Dell T150 (if I recall), a left-over from one of the experiments my brother did, handed it to me
- next computer (1 Gb, 80Gb SATA and dual CPU), given to me by my brother in law, used to belong to my nice
- my softsynth, the left-over of my brother in law, decent box that can handle quite a bit of audio processing
- a box I've put CrunchBang on, given by a local shopkeeper, I passed his shop while he was loading his car to get it to the scrapyard, he gave it to me instead...
- an old Compaq Deskpro, given by a bizz-associate of someone, used to be the network's print server...
the rest? Leftovers I picked up left and right...
There used to be way more, but I did throw some (a lot) out...broken stuff...really EOL...
Helps me playing around without messing up my main box
There is a near-by college here that recently updated the IT lab and sold all of the old stuff...
On the down side, I'm always tinkering, while everyone else around me has speed-boxes, op the up, I have yet to spend a fortune on PC's...
Heh... no problem...
I do tend to get the odd "problem child" as well, got an Archos9, nothing will work on that piece of *** ... oh sure, as long as you hook everything up to it, but the touch, that's still a mistery...
Umm, not really...they really (no kidding) give them to me...I've just had a dual 64-bit machine (Dell 475 if I'm not mistaken) that plays games like nuts...
Cant wait to get into RuneScape 3 with it!!!

I have got several computers, mostly old desktops, by dumpster diving. They aren't really good for much but fooling around with though.....

Yeah...that's the main idea here too...but it remains funny...having that many PC's. If you tell someone that you've got that many PC's, but leav out the part how you got them, just look at the eyes they make...
Always cracks me up...
