Gnome.org uses Cantarell - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantarell_(typeface)

You can upload your image to one of several websites for information, although I would suggest using an editor to trim them to just the fonts. The second site mentioned below has some guidelines.

https://www.fontspring.com/matcherator
https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

A google search for "identify font" should turn up other options as well. Of course your mileage may vary as they say.

Best of luck, and let us know how it goes - others may be interested.

Hi...

I could be wrong but there may be variants of this particular font. The font here looks very similar, if not identical, to the one shown in the "Update All" button you mentioned. If desired, you can also download it here. To confirm this is the correct font, you can also contact GNOME here.

Regards...

Looking at the page you mentioned, it decidedly is NOT Cantarell, but that assumes of course that you are interested in a "very close match" as opposed to "looks very similar." ... which in turn is of course dependent on how critical the required match might be.

The page (https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/cantarell) has a tab titled "Test Drive." If you type the phrase "Includes performance, stability," (from the poster's example) into its box, you'll see several differences, some subtle, some not so much. Look, for instance, at the lower case "s" which, in the case of Cantarell, has ends that do not "wrap around" very much. And, as they say: etc. etc. Compare that with the poster's example, in which the ends of the lower case "s" have a definite concluding "curl" on each end.

The poster doesn't say *why* he/she wants to identify/locate the font, but character-to-character spacing and individual character widths also appear to be dissimilar - a "show-stopper" for some purposes. This latter, by the way, is what makes some free/FOSS fonts that purport to be good substitutes for the Microsoft standbys (Times New Roman, Arial, and Courier New) land anywhere between useful or useless.

Font matching is a rather arcane science (?) and depends a lot on why you are doing the match and what characteristics are most important for a particular need. It is obvious that the desired font is installed on Moxin's system, since the screen shot would be impossible without it. For this reason, I suspect that if Moxin could elaborate on those things a bit, we might be able to offer more help ...

The screenshot is an image downloaded from the gnome.org website (OP provided the link from where it was downloaded).

Ah, sorry - missed that. Still would be good to know the specifics of what the considerations are for a "good match"...

Thanks for the info. If I were you though I would take up the previous suggestion of trying to contact Gnome and ask them what font they used for the button. Given that we're talking about Gnome here, it would surprise me if it wasn't a free open source font that they used.
