XFree86 display = ugly orange lines on dell 1100

Hello all, I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 and I'm having a strange problem with video.

First of all I know about the Intel driver issue and have installed the patch to get more than 1MB vid mem.

The problem that I'm having is that randomly, when XFree86 comes up the display is messed up. I get nothing more that orange and gray vertical lines accoss the screen. It happens about 2 out of 3 boots. If I reboot a few times, eventually the display will work itself out and come up okay.

Any ideas as to what is up with this or possible ways to fix?

Thanks
