total newbie - tried all the troubleshooting re-installations but still can't get recognition of the cdrom. Works ok under dual-booted W98, and worked ok to read the installation cd. Under Xandros, however, just sits there and spins. As a laptop cd, it's removable. I also seem to have several "versions" of cdrom - file manager shows both a cdrom and rwcdrom (don't have one of those on my box); when i do a locate i find /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 and /var/autofs/cdrom.1/cdrom.1. I also show an entry at /disks/Removable/cdrom.1.

fstab shows a mountpoint for /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 at /mnt/cdrom0.

appreciate any suggestions - i'm obviously over my head at this stage.
