Unhappy x server doesn't start after installation

I've just installed Red Hat Fedora Core 1 on my Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop with an ATI Rage 128 Mobility video card. When I boot up, the x server will not start. I get a message telling me that something with my graphical interface is not properly set up. Judging by what I've read, I think I need to configure the x server to use the generic vesa driver, but I don't know how, as I'm a total Linux newbie. Could anyone give me a detailed description of how to go about this? Detailed, as in, I don't know the first thing about Linux commands yet. Thanks.

I was using Suse 9.1 and I know there are others here who will be able to help you much better.

But I reinstalled and at the point the install recognized my hardware there was a stop that it told me what video and monitor it was going to install for the configuration.

By clicking on change at that point is were I could adjust what drivers to have it use.

Not sure if this helps as I'm still learning just as you are.

Good luck.
