X driver for ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 Pro
Hello All,
I am so new to linux and this forum that I don't actually have linux installed yet. My problem is that I have just bought an Xtreme laptop from Rock-Direct which has the ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 Pro. From what I can discern so far, I couldn't have chosen a worse graphics card to port linux on to. My fear is that I won't be able to even complete a linux installation without coming a cropper. So in the first instance, has anyone out there found a solution, or is anyone working on a solution? Failing that any advice help on my path away from Uncle Billy and his forces of darkness? Many thanks, in advance, for your responses. Rich |
The ATi linux driver supports this chip.

Bern,
Thanks for the link. I had previously looked at the ATi site and I note the Linux drivers are for the non-mobility Radeon chips. Would you clarify that these drivers will indeed work for a mobility/laptop implementation? Kind regards, Richard |

Bern, you're a star! Many thanks.
Rich PS. you would have thought ATi would put a notice on the mobile linux driver page to say that some mobile support is provided through the non-mobile drivers. |
My Dell Inspiron 5100 has the Radeon Mobility 7500. Know of which Linux driver to use for it?
