X Display problems for user (and not root) after suspend mode

Hello all!

I am having a problem with my display after my laptop falls enters suspend mode (...although when
I type on my usb keyboard it is not considered keystrokes...it only delays suspend mode when I type on the laptop keyboard directly)

When I am root, I can hit a key and the screen returns as normal. No problems here....

When I am a user, my screen returns in 640x??? mode , although I use 1024 mode. The only solution I have so far is simply restarting XWindows.

What is the root account accessing (in terms of apmd/display resources) that my user account isn't?

I have altered my XF86Config file to remove all other display modes other than 1024, but nothing changed....

Help would be GREATLY appreciated....I don't understand what is going on!

Info: RH 9.0 on a Toshiba S1415
Kernel 2.4.20-8
NVidia Ge Force 420 Graphics Driver (admittedly hacked with IGNORE_EDID(?)) so the black stripe doesn't appear on the right side of the screen....mmm....

Hi,

My Toshiba M10-S405 has the same video card and same problem in RH and FC. If allowed to suspend, it has a bad display when it comes back. It just does not correctly redraw the sreen. I have no idea what is going on or what is the culprit. The quickest solution that I have found is to switch to another Virtual Terminal and the back to the Xwindow Virtual Terminal. Say, first Ctrl+Alt+F1 then Alt+F7 to get back.

Thanks for the tip!

@All:

Oddly enough, the suspend mode does NOT affect the screen after switching virtual terminals
and then returning (i.e. After switching once and then going into suspend mode, the screen returns normally) in my user account.

Now the question is: Where am I reading my suspend/screen info. when I start a session in X as opposed to returning to a previous session?

Any ideas/suggestions?

I do not if this will help, but I had a problem just like that with redhat 7. Check out your Xscreensaver program. I just disabled the bugger. Hope it helps.
